Mrs. Nieman began her career in caring for and transporting
critically ill patients in 1993 as an advanced clinical nurse for
Critical Care Transport after 10 years of progressive accomplishments
as a staff nurse, including neonatal, pediatric and emergency care
practices. She managed the mobile ICU system that served greater Cleveland
and was responsible for its growth and reputation for competent clinical
care.
Early in her career, Carolyn was identified as a resource for all
patients and developed a researc-based poster-style algorithm that is still
in use today. Since 1998, she has served as a flight nurse specialist with
MetroLife Flight. She is certified as an emergency nurse, a flight nurse,
and most recently as an acute care nurse practitioner.
Her publications
include Out of Hospital Intubation of Pediatric Patients (JAMA) and
Intubated Pediatric Patients requiring Air Transport (Air Medical Journal).
She is the principal investigator of a comprehensive study of resucitation doses for children.
